The story

Miles has music in his body. Everyone keeps telling him to stop.

Miles Can't Stop Moving

Miles tapped his fork on the table at breakfast.

He drummed his knees under his desk at school.

He bounced when he walked and spun when he waited in line.

"Miles, please sit still," said Mrs. Coleman.

But Miles couldn't stop. His body had music in it, even when nothing was playing.

From the first page of the book

Miles taps his fork and grins at the breakfast table while his mom holds a coffee mug.
  1. On the school blacktop, Miles looks down while a group of kids point and laugh. The doubt

"Boys don't dance like that," Rodney said, loud enough for the whole blacktop to hear.

  2. Miles practices dance moves alone in the garage at night, next to a lawnmower and a tablet playing a video. The practice

He was terrible. He tripped over his own feet and bumped into the lawnmower. But he got up. And he tried again.

  3. Miles dances on the school stage in front of a gym full of families. The stage

The music started. And Miles danced.

  4. Miles smiles at his reflection in a bedroom mirror at night. The words

"I'm so proud of me," Miles whispered. And he meant it more than anything anyone else said that night.

For every kid who was told they were too much. You were always just right.
